Microplastics Released from Tea Bags: An Invisible Risk to Your Health

Research has shown that plastic tea bags used for making tea release a significant amount of microplastics and nanoplastics, which can enter the body and create severe health risks. When such a tea bag is immersed in a cup of hot water, approximately 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics are released. These particles are so small that they can enter the cells of the human body.

Researchers have stated that these plastic particles can cause inflammation, hormonal imbalance, and oxidative stress in the body. Over the long term, they can lead to serious health risks such as cancer and reproductive issues. Tea bags made from materials like nylon and polypropylene are primarily responsible for this problem.

As a solution, experts recommend using plastic-free tea bags or loose-leaf tea. The risk can also be reduced by using biodegradable tea bags and filtered water.

These studies clearly show that even the everyday habit of drinking tea may conceal health risks. Therefore, we should focus on preparing and drinking tea in a sustainable and safe manner.
